🔱 Temple Significance

Annappanpettai Sundareswarar Temple is an ancient Shiva temple at Annappanpettai, historically known as Thirukkalikkamur. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Sundareswarar, with Goddess Azhagammai / Sundarambal. The temple is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams and was praised by Tirugnanasambandar. Sage Parasara is traditionally believed to have worshipped Lord Shiva here.

🏛 Temple History

The ancient name of the place was Kalikamur or Thirukkalikkamur. The temple is traditionally associated with Sage Parasara and the worship of Lord Sundareswarar. Tirugnanasambandar visited and praised the deity in his Tevaram hymns. The temple has a sacred Vilva tree and Chandra Theertham.
