Tirupullambhootangudi Valvil Ramar Temple is one of the sacred 108 Divya Desams praised in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham by the Alvars.
The presiding deity Valvil Ramar is a form of Rama, worshipped in a reclining posture. According to legend, Lord Rama performed the last rites for Jatayu at this place after the bird sacrificed its life trying to save Sita from Ravana.
Because of this sacred event, the temple is considered highly significant for devotees of Lord Rama.
