🏛 Temple History

Tirukkozhi, located in Urayur (the ancient capital of the Cholas), is one of the sacred Divya Desams praised by the Alwars. The temple is closely associated with the divine marriage of Goddess Kamalavalli (a princess of the Chola king) and Lord Ranganatha of Srirangam. According to legend, the goddess was born as a human princess and later united with Lord Vishnu here. The temple dates back to the early Chola period and reflects the deep Vaishnavite traditions of Tamil Nadu. Unlike many temples, Goddess Kamalavalli Thayar holds special prominence here, and Lord Vishnu is worshipped as her consort. The temple has been preserved through centuries and continues to be an important pilgrimage site.
