The Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple has a history that blends mythology and royal patronage. According to tradition, the idol of Lord Ranganatha was originally worshipped by Lord Rama and later given to Vibhishana, who brought it to Srirangam, where it chose to remain. Historically, the temple flourished under the Chola, Pandya, and Vijayanagara dynasties, who expanded its grand structure. It faced invasions during the 14th century, but devotees protected the deity and later restored the temple. Over time, it evolved into a major center of devotion, culture, and Sri Vaishnavite tradition in South India.
