Thiruninriyur Mahalakshmiswarar Temple is an ancient Shiva temple where Lord Shiva is worshipped as Mahalakshmiswarar / Lakshmipureeswarar and Goddess as Loganayaki. The temple is one of the Tevaram Paadal Petra Sthalams and is traditionally associated with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, Parashurama and Agastya.

🏛 Temple History

According to the traditional sthala history, a Chola king was travelling through the area at night with lamps. When he reached Thiruninriyur, the lamps went out. The king investigated the spot and discovered a Shiva Lingam beneath the ground. A temple was subsequently established at the site. The temple is also associated with Parashurama, who is believed to have worshipped Lord Shiva here to obtain relief from Brahmahatya dosha. The temple has an eastern orientation and a prominent rajagopuram.
