🔱 Temple Significance

Keezhaiyur Kadaimudinathar Temple is an ancient Shiva temple and one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Kadaimudinathar, also known as Andhasamrakshaneswarar, with Goddess Abirami as the consort. The temple is traditionally associated with Brahma and Kanva Maharishi. A distinctive feature is the west-facing shrine of Shiva and the sixteen-faceted Shiva Lingam known as a Shodasa Lingam.

🏛 Temple History

The ancient sacred name of the place is Thirukkadaimudi. The site was traditionally associated with the name Kiluvaioor because of the Kiluva tree, the sacred tree of the temple. According to the temple tradition, Brahma worshipped Shiva here after seeking relief from a curse, and Shiva appeared beneath the Kiluva tree. The original self-manifested form is revered as Kiluva Nathar. The temple also contains inscriptions from the periods of Vikrama Chola, Parantaka Chola I and Pallava king Nandivarman III, demonstrating its historical antiquity.
